 What Are Small Groups?

 Small Groups
(Click on any of the tags for more information)                                       SMALL GROUPS

We have found that the best way to create community in Christ is to spend time with one another. Worshipping together is great, but in order to develop and deepen relationships, it takes something more; Small Groups. Small Groups are instrumental to us as we help one another in the transformation process. It is our aim to be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ. Check out our Small Group Listings for the latest on our Small Groups and the resources available.

 What Are Small Groups Section

Me, You and God Graphic
The church is not a place, name, building or program. It is a people. There are aspects of our life with God that we cannot experience apart from each other. None of us are meant to do life alone, and even though we know this, we often find ourselves living as the products of an individualistic culture...busy and alone-or maybe we just feel alone because the relationships we have lack health, depth or purpose. We believe that if people aren't in a place where they can be personally known, challenged, and encouraged their lives with Jesus will be limited and their growth will be stunted. Life is better when shared: the joys are richer, the sorrows more bearable, the challenges are put in perspective and decisions are wiser. This is where small groups come in...

Small groups are gatherings of approximately 5-20 people who are committed to meeting together on a regular basis to share in fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. Many small groups meet regularly each week in our church community. We believe that groups create opportunities to grow in each of the following three vital relationships:

1.  Community
Maturing believers are growing in community with other believers through spending time together, encouraging one another and supporting one another.
2.  Discipleship
Maturing followers are continually pursuing an intimate relationship with God through Christ.
3.  Outreach
Maturing believers are reaching out to embrace people with grace and truth so that they also might have an intimate relationship with God through
Christ.

You will notice that these three areas correspond well with the vision of Christ Community by “providing a place to belong, something real to believe and applying God's Word to everyday life.”

What kinds of groups are there?
We have groups gathered based on common experiences (young couples, men, women, youth, college-aged and couples). We also have groups centered around content (Bible studies, book studies and accountability). Some small groups are neighborhood groups and gather based on geographical location. No matter what your interest or needs, we look forward to helping you get connected with a group!

How often do groups meet?
Most groups meet once a week, though some occasionally adjust that schedule to the needs of the group members. Many groups at Christ Community alter their meeting times (or do not meet at all) during the summer.

How long does each group gathering last?
Each group chooses the length of time they will meet. However, most groups meet for an hour and a half to two hours.

What is the average lifespan of a group?
Groups initially commit to meet for 4–6 weeks as a trial period. After this time, the group members decide if they want to continue meeting together for additional weeks/months.

Getting connected at Christ Community is about relationships that get beneath the surface.  As we’re aiming to know, love and worship God in a personal way, we’re also striving to know, love and support one another. Whether kids or adults, each of us need time weekly with a smaller group of people who can get to know us personally, share life with us and encourage us to pursue Jesus Christ. That kind of relationship won’t come by simply attending worship services.  If you would like more information about Small Groups, click here, and someone will be in contact with you soon.
